Soulful Soft Western

This project was a true case study in soulful design. Nearly every item holds personal meaning in photos and artifacts collected from our family travels -- Sweden, Denmark, Australia, New Zealand, Wisconsin, Wyoming. The rug was hand carried from Afghanistan by a friend. The chair was found by family at an estate sale in Virginia. There is life, love and nostalgia packed into the space.

My design process focused on scale and proportion, balancing a moody cool backdrop with the right amount of wood and natural textures to warm the space. Furniture lines speak mid-century but not so much as to disturb a cozy cottage-leaning home. Functionally the room flexes from dining room to office, to now high school study hall. Most importantly it feels good!
